Short break from frosty weather on the way for the Stratford area

We’re going to get a break from the chilly weather, it just won’t be a long one.

While we are expecting to see a high of around minus 6 Tuesday, with the wind chill making it feel like minus 24 Tuesday morning and minus 13 Tuesday afternoon, and a high of around plus three Wednesday come the weekend it’s expected to be frosty again with a high of minus 10 on Saturday and minus 9 on Sunday.

Environment Canada Senior Climatologist David Phillips says normally at this time of the year we are seeing highs of around minus three and lows of around minus 11 meaning this latest stretch is off the beaten path for where we should be.

However, Phillips says that to this point the winter we’ve been experiencing hasn’t been too bad at all.

“December was warmer than normal by almost three degrees and at least November was, and really if we stick a thermometer into Stratford right now we would find that January has even been warmer than normal.”

Phillips adds that the second half of winter will bring more cold weather with it but it’s expected to stick around like we saw last year when we had a blast in April.
