Damage pegged at over $1-million after “suspicious” fire in Stratford

Damage is pegged at over $1-million and one person had to be rescued off the roof of a building after a suspicious fire in Stratford.
Stratford Fire Chief John Paradis tells MyStratfordNow firefighters were called out to 18 Brunswick Street around 12:30 Saturday morning after a report of wooden pallets on fire behind the building.
Once on scene, firefighters found the building on fire with those living in it having evacuated.
A full search was done to make sure no one else was inside and Paradis says one person had to be rescued from the roof of a nearby building after having gone there to escape the fire.
Firefighters from Shakespeare and Milverton were called in to help battle the blaze and they were able to bring under control at around 7 o’clock Saturday morning.
Paradis says the building will be cordoned off until an investigation is complete and it’s determined if the building needs to be torn down.
Stratford Police are calling the fire suspicious and are investigating.
